Dansville- Norman Lyle Sutfin age 84, passed away early Tuesday afternoon February 3, 2015, at the Steuben County Health Facility in Bath, where he had been resident for the past several months. He was born in the Town of Dansville, on January 7, 1931, the son of the late Lyle and Rosa (Jacobs) Sutfin. He was also predeceased by a sister Arita Burley. On October 30, 1954, he was married to the former Jean Cartwright Sutfin, who survives. Norm was a butcher for many years at the former Smith's Market, he retired from Fison Penwalt in Rochester. He was a US Navy Korea era veteran. He was a member and Past President of the James H. Jackson Hose Company of the Dansville Fire Department, a member, Past Commander and member of the Firing Squad at the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion, the Frank J. Casbolt # 6780 of the VFW, the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1130, and a Charter member of the Dansville Ambulance Company. He was active in the planning and organization of the original James H. Jackson Hose Oktoberfest and Balloon Rallye. In his free time he enjoyed golfing, hunting and socializing. Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty years Jean, are his children; Alan Sutfin, Norma (Paul) Gangi of Dansville, Timothy (Pauline) Sutfin of Melville, NY, and Russell (Linda) Sutfin of Wayland; a sister Linda Jaroszek of Canandaigua, four grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A memorial celebration will be held at the James H. Jackson Hose Clubrooms on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Interment with full military honors will be held Bath National Cemetery in the spring. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
